Research in Computer Science offers the opportunity to explore fascinating topics and pursue your ideas. The School of Computing's eminent faculty actively conducts research in a myriad of fields; their work is recognized and respected worldwide. Become a graduate student and join them to discover what only you can.

  • You can complete a research-, project- or course-based Master's in the School of Computing in two years or less.
  • Following your research-based Master's, you can complete a PhD in the School of Computing within four years.

Join Us

You can join the School of Computing in a few simple steps:

  1. Review our research groups and faculty members.
  2. Check our FAQ and admission requirements.
  3. Apply on-line by January 15.
    • This deadline is flexible for Canadian applicants.
    • The application is done on a separate site managed by the School of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs.
  4. Contact a potential supervisor and tell them of your application.
  5. Receive your offer between February and June.
  6. Begin the academic year begin in September. (Admission in January or May is possible for Ph.D. applicants.)

Admission Requirements for the 2024-25 Academic Session

  • The application deadline is January 15, 2024 for completed applications to be considered for funding for both September 2024 and January 2025 admission.
    • Documentation received after this date is considered to be late.
    • Our program is geared for a September start. We take very few applicants for the January session.
  • Our program is highly competitive with very limited space for international applicants.
    • Your best strategy after completing an application is to contact a small number of faculty in your area of research.
      • Please quote your application number in your email to them.
    • Students are admitted to a supervisor if deemed admissible by the admission committee.
  • Applications will not be considered complete without all:
    • university transcripts;
    • graduation certificates (if applicable);
    • two letters of academic reference; and
    • a statement of interest.
    Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • The School of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs lists the English language test result requirements, including TOEFL and IELTS.
  • GRE is not required.

M.Sc. Requirements

  • Honours Bachelor degree; and
  • second class standing or higher.
    • International students must have a minimum "A" standing (first class).

PhD Requirements

  • Master's degree; and
  • minimum "A" standing (first class).
